Lab Operations Coordinator/RAII

This is a Full-time position in Boston, GA posted December 6, 2020.

n n n n n nn Job Summary nn n nThis position is responsible for serving as the Lab Coordinator for multiple labs in the Systems Biology Department.

The role is multi-faceted and requires close collaboration with other members of the Laboratory Operations team.

This position reports to the Research Operations Manager and will perform duties relating to lab safety, lab management, and lab animal use in a dynamic research environment.

In addition, this position will work closely with the Aquatic Animal Care Technologist to provide husbandry support for the department’s frog facility and will provide support to the departmental tissue culture facilities.n n n n n n nn Job-Specific Responsibilities nn n Ensures labs adhere to all appropriate safety regulations including: recording and tracking chemical inventories; management of biological and chemical waste; and tracking safety training of lab members..

Coordinates lab organization, ordering of lab supplies, stocking of consumables, and shipping biological materials.


Provides husbandry support for the department’s frog facility and acts as the primary back-up for the Aquatic Animal Care Technologist.

Responsible for inventorying, stocking, and other support functions in the departmental tissue culture facilities.

Assists lab members in dealing with various needs as they arise..

Provides support to drosophila lab including maintaining fly stocks.

Works effectively within a culture inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciates and leverages the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.

Maintains instruments and schedules certifications.

Responsibilities may also include some basic laboratory techniques (preparing DNA and protein gels) as well as making solutions or preparing media..

Provides on-call support as needed after hours for emergencies in their labs or the frog facility.

May need to work periodic holidays or weekends as needed.

May perform other duties as needed.

n n n nn Basic Qualifications nn nCollege background or equivalent work experience, preferably in science or related discipline.

At least 1 year of lab experience (relevant coursework may count toward some, but not all, work experience).n n n nn Additional Qualifications and Skills nn n nBachelor’s degree preferred.

Previous laboratory experience with safety implementation required.

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) are required.

The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication skills.

May be required to handle a variety of hazardous materials.

Previous work with aquatic animals is preferred.n n n nThe ideal candidate will be a self-starter with an upbeat attitude who will look at how the labs function and think creatively about how to implement improvements.

They will enjoy contributing to a range of different projects and helping many different people to achieve their goals.
